Flying in Joystick Mode
Flying in joystick mode with the E2 allows the user to directly control the velocities, heading, and climb/descent rate. Joystick mode can be flown through the RC handset or with virtual joysticks on the tablet.
Joystick control
- The right stick moves the aicraft laterally (forward, back, left, and right).
- The left stick up/down is climb/descent.
- The left stick left/right control the yaw rate of the aircraft.
- Joystick control can be enable during any flight phase including to abort a landing, or takeover control during an emergency.
Getting into and out of joystick mode
- If using the tablet UI for joystick mode:
- Once the aircraft is flying, press-and-hold two sides of the screen to turn on virtual joysticks.
- Leaving the sticks centered will cause the aircraft to hold position.
- To get out of tablet joystick mode, simply send the aircraft to any waypoint.
- If using the RC handset for joystick mode:
- Once the aircraft is flying, toggle the auto/manual switch on the top right of the handset.
- To get out of this mode, switch back to auto. The aircraft will continue to the last commanded waypoint.
Mixing Look-at mode and joystick mode.
Joystick mode can also be used in concert with the look-at waypoint. When a look-at point is commmanded, the yaw control will point the aircraft at the target while still allowing the other three joystick controls. This is useful mode to quickly get images or video of an object of interest from many angles.
